NCTV was invited to film two presentations at the 2014 DARE to Dream Summer Day Program this summer that really hit home.
The first presenter was Rich Barnes, a recovering alcoholic and recovering drug addict. Rich has the amazing ability to tell his life story, which is full of desperation and despair, while instilling in the students (and adults) the power of choice and a newfound optimism for the future. He reminds us that our lives are in our hands and that it is never too late to make a change for the better. Rich has a list of resources on his website if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction.
The second presentation was by Jennifer Rowe of the District Attorney's Office and Cory Scanlon who was the driver in a drunk driving accident. Jennifer talks about the struggles with addiction that she has witnessed and stresses the importance of making responsible decisions. Cory Scanlon then talks about the night that changed his life forever. You can hear the pain in his voice as he bravely recounts the night's events with the clear message that you can't take it back. He highlights the importance of reminding yourself that there are consequences for your actions and to make your decisions wisely.
Both of these presentations were powerful and moving and I want to extend my gratitude to the presenters and DARE for allowing NCTV to capture them. They can both be seen on our channels as well as our YouTube page.
