Monthly Workshops and Groups

Film Discussion Group

June 20, 2017

Held every third Tuesday of the month!

This group is meant for anyone interested in analyzing films in an open and friendly space. We will prepare a topic to discuss each month and gain a better understanding of different elements of filmmaking. By watching clips from different films, we will explore what has been done really well (or perhaps what hasn't) and examine why something works or doesn't. Local filmmakers are also invited to use this group to screen their short film and optionally open it to a constructive discussion.

June Topic: Suspending Disbelief
Creating believable worlds in film doesn't mean the content has to be grounded in the real world. This month we will discuss how films let an audience suspend disbelief and forget that what they're watching is fiction.

Screenwriting Group

Writing is hard, but we want to help! This screenwriting group is meant to serve local screenwriters who want support. The group is open to all writing levels, and we encourage anyone to join. We will offer time for table reads to workshop member's screenplays, helping the writer work through dialogue and story development. We will also plan discussions about various writing aspects including, structure, formatting, keeping on schedule, defeating writer's block, character development, and more.
